A video showing a man booting a squirrel into the Grand Canyon, and thus to its death, has caused uproar online, and a campaign has launched to find the perpetrator.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (better known as PETA) are the people behind the reward, and they have offered not only a £10,000 incentive but also a trip to the Grand Canyon to anyone who can provide them with "information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator".
Mimi Bekhechi, who is in charge of the UK branch of PETA, said that the results are conclusive when it comes to people who commit acts of violence against animals; they don't just stop there:
"Someone out there may know who sadistically sent this trusting squirrel plunging to his or her death, and PETA is calling on that individual to come forward now – before anyone else gets hurt."
According to ITV News, it is believed that the suspect is from a French-speaking country, and the video that was uploaded to YouTube by a bystander (not someone who was part of the group of men involved) shows two men in boxer shorts and hats standing next to the canyon.
The suspect appears to use snacks or food to lure the animal over, before delivering a kick that sends it flying off the edge of the canyon, which can be up to four miles deep.
