So clearly there's money in Greece somewhere.
With all the economic turmoil and lack of funding for pretty much anything inessential, an amateur football team have turned to the world's oldest profession for sponsorship. Voukefalas football club from Larissa, which competes in the A1 league, had fallen on hard times just like the rest of the country so turned to the local brothel for a dig out. So now the team wear pink jerseys with 'Villa Erotica' branded all over them, after 67 year old luxury brothel owner Soula Alevridou agreed to cover all their costs.
And they're not the only ones who've turned to 'alternative' sponsors. Trikala based team Palaiopyrgos signed a deal with a funeral home and now wear black jerseys emblazoned with the undertaker's logo and a large white cross down the middle. Yikes. However it's actually turned out well for the team, with opponents being suitably freaked by the team colours, and according to their manager "The goalkeeper kept crossing himself, our competitors lost every play." Well I guess that's a silver lining for them. Now they just have to change their mascot to the Grim Reaper and Tim Burton will turn their story into a movie in a heartbeat.
