According to BBC Royal Correspondent Peter Hunt, the long wait is over and the shorter wait is about to begin as Kate Middleton has gone into labour.
Hunt broke the news this morning at 7.29 am, and tweeted 'The Duchess of Cambridge is in labour and has gone to give birth at the private Lindo Wing at St. Mary's Hospital in London. #RoyalBaby' and confirmed that Kate and Prince William traveled from Kensington Palace to the hospital themselves via car and not by ambulance, and that Kate is believed to be one week past her due date.

The official statement from the palace contained a mere 45 words, which is all we know at the moment. Now, we just have to sit and wait for what could be anything up to days for a confirmation of birth. Everyone to their tenterhooks. Stay tuned.
