Sad news this morning as Ireland's greatest poet of our generation and Nobel laureate Seamus Heaney has passed away at the age of 74.
Heaney suffered from ill health recently but his death still comes as a shock. Many Irish people will be consciously or subconsciously aware of his works, with Heaney's works being celebrated around the world and a near constant feature on the Leaving Cert English curriculum. Heaney began his career as a teacher before moving on to poetry full-time, for which he won the Nobel prize for literature in 1995.
