Not everyone knows but Mary J. Blige accomplished quite a feat at this year’s Oscars being the first person to be nominated for both best Song and an acting category (for Best Supporting Actress in Mudbound) in the same year.
While Blige unfortunately didn’t win either category on the night, it seems that the night wasn’t a total loss, as sources say that Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s first ever, top secret Oscars party was dedicated to her.
The party may become an annual thing to compete with the Vanity Fair Oscar party, where Oscar winners traditionally go, and with Madonna’s exclusive bash, which was held this year at her manager Guy Oseary’s Hollywood mansion.
According to US Weekly, an insider of the party said it took place in the underground garage at the Chateau Marmont on Sunset Boulevard in LA, and was decorated to look like a "very classy, old-school Hollywood glamour lounge" complete with a crystal chandelier.
There were only about 150 guests “and the invite says, ‘No sitting, you have to be up and dancing.’ It’s going to rival the Guy Oseary after afterparty now.”
“Close friends with Jay … didn’t even know if they were invited,” the insider told Page Six. “They wanted to mind-f–k everyone and keep everything mysterious and exclusive.”
Another source said, “It took some masterful maneuvers to pull this off, and they enjoyed it so much, they want to make it annual, keeping it as much on the ‘DL’ as possible.
“They went stealth. VVVIPs all went up a hill past the hotel and went into the kitchen to make their way down to the back entrance of the garage. No fotogs, no carpet.”
A different source said inside “it was all of black Hollywood” with invitees reportedly including Daniel Kaluuya, Rihanna, Stevie Wonder, Danai Gurira, Jamie Foxx and Drake.
