Somewhere, the current editor of French Closer is flogging themselves. Two Australian DJs have managed to wangle information from London's King Edward VII Hospital by pretending to be The Queen, Prince Charles and a corgie.
The on duty nurse came across with the following update: "She is sleeping at the moment, and she has had an uneventful night, and sleep is good for her... she's been given some fluids to rehydrate her as she was quite dehydrated when she came in but she's stable at the moment."
DJ Mel Greig responded: "OK I'll just feed my little corgies then. When is a good time to come and visit her? I'm the Queen and I'll need a lift down there..." and then it descends into actual farce. Despite this, and the fact that The Queen probably has a direct line for Kate, the nurse continued:
"I would suggest that any time after nine o'clock would be suitable, because the doctor will be in in the morning, and she will be freshened up in the morning, so I would think any time after nine... She hasn’t had any retching with me since I've been on duty."
Believe it or not, she comes across with yet more details. 2Day FM presenters Mel Greig and Michael Christian are EXTREMELY annoying, and there's a full two minutes of them being 'zany' before the actual call comes on, so do shimmy yourselves along to the 4:26 minute mark.
Prince Charles sounded like a constipated Frank Spencer with laryngitis.
To be honest, if they were going to go to such depths, they could've done a lot more with it...
Digital Spy reports that the hospital has confirmed that the recording of the call was genuine, adding: "This was a foolish prank call that we all deplore. We take patient confidentiality extremely seriously and we are now reviewing our telephone protocols."
