A singer of a heavy metal Christian band has admitted that he's actually an atheist and just said he had faith in order to sell records.
There's a huge demand for Christian music of all types, and heavy metal is one of the biggest sellers, something which it seems As I Lay Dying frontman Tim Lambesis is well aware of after he admitted recently that his Christian Metal band wasn't all that religious after all.
Lambesis divulged the whole thing in an interview with Alternative Press, where he stated that he wasn't the first one in the group to lose his faith, and that by the end he was pretty sure all five members had enough of being Christian, but continued to say they were in order to sell records.

Lambesis added that plenty of bands he toured with in his time were up to the same thing, saying that maybe one in ten were really Christian. "A lot of Christian parents said, ‘Yes, you can buy this As I Lay Dying CD, because they’re a Christian band.’ They don’t even think to actually check the lyrics", he said, and explained that he lost faith while doing a long-distance learning course in religious studies and found it more and more difficult to defend his faith.
Lambesis gave the interview from behind bars however, as he managed to get caught up in a sting operation where it was uncovered that he was trying to kill his wife, which is not very Christian of him at all.
We haven't heard their most recent album, but here are a few rough demos that they submitted to the record company.
