While Ireland's towns are getting cleaner, it seems that the city areas are only getting worse.
Irish Business against Litter along with An Taisce have produced a table of the best and worst places in Ireland when it comes to litter, and several spots in Dublin have ended up down the bottom of the list.
Farranree in Cork sits at the very bottom, while Dublin's north inner city and two other areas prop up the rest of the table. Areas in Limerick also appear in the bottom six positions, with Dublin, Cork and Limerick cities in general being classed as "modeately littered" which have suggested the trend that the city areas in Ireland are not improving on the litter front. Dublin's north inner city and Faranree in Cork were listed as litter black spots, with concerns from the council in both areas over illegal dumping, while Tallaght was also listed as having a lot of litter.
Meanwhile, Kilkenny and Cavan were Ireland’s cleanest towns, along with Killarney, Tramore and Longford, making for a total of 18 towns in Ireland being above the EU average when it came to being free of litter.
An Tasice stated that they were disappointed regarding Dubin's inability to improve their performance since the last survey, but did add that O'Connell Street, Smithfield and the roads around Dublin Airport had improved, which would make a big differencet for tourists.
In general however, it seems that Ireand's towns are outperforming Ireland's cities on the cleanliness front.
