The reason for changing your baby's name could be misconstrued and frowned upon. But in the case of Amy Schumer, it was an absolute necessity.
Amy Schumer's first child, Gene, was born last May.
What the comedian and star of 'Trainwreck' didn't realise was her baby's (initial) middle name would prove something of a catastrophe.
Gene took his surname from Schumer's husband, Chris Fischer. His middle name was going to be Attell, after Schumer's friend and fellow comedian Dave Attell.
And then the new mum realised her mistake.
Fans joked that her son's name sounded like "genital fissure". Many even thought the comedian was making a joke.
Schumer has now confirmed it wasn't, and that she has changed Gene's middle name.
Speaking on her podcast, she said: "So do you guys know that Gene, our baby's name is officially changed?
"It's now Gene David Fischer. It was Gene Attell Fischer but we realised that we, by accident, named our son, 'genital'."
Claudia O'Doherty, Schumer's podcast guest and friend, said: "My mom pointed that out to me actually. My mom was like, 'Amy's called her son genital.'
"And I was like, "What are you talking about?' And then, she was right."
Gene's new name is a tribute to Schumer's father, Gordon David Schumer.
