After a stint in pirate radio, the often controversial and outspoken DJ joined Ireland’s state broadcaster RTE in 1979. The Gerry Ryan Show began in 1988 and quickly became one of Ireland’s most popular radio programmes. Ryan has also hosted several television series including Secrets, Ryantown, Gerry Ryan Tonight, Gerry Ryan’s Hitlist and Ryan Confidential. In 1994 Ryan co-presented the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest with former newsreader Cynthia Ni Mhurchu."

Personally, we will fondly remember Gerry for his work on Aidan Walsh: Master of the Universe, and his tete-a-tetes with Dave Fanning and Joe Elliot on Number 1. It was a music quiz show from the 80s which was on Network 2. No one else in the office remembers it. I'm either going insane or growing exceedingly older by the second.
