Look, we know it's delicious but there's such a thing as being too much of a fan and this is it.
A French couple who welcomed their bouncing baby girl in September had their choice of name for their child rescinded by a family court judge after he deemed it 'not in line with [the] interest' of the child. Big move you say? Well the chosen name was Nutella, so you can understand the court's decision to step in.
The court deleted the name of the child from the civil register following a hearing (which the parents didn't attend) and the judge renamed the child 'Ella' saying "In this case the name "Nutella" given to the child is the trade name of a spread. And it is contrary to the child's interest to be wearing a name like that can only lead to teasing or disparaging thoughts."
According La Voix du Nord, you can name your child anything in France, but the registrar will check the name when the birth certificate is issued and if the name 'seems contrary to the child's interest, it must notify the prosecutor, who may then enter a family court order to remove the name of the registers of civil status.'
And a nation weeps as the opportunity to name their daughter 'Champagne' disappears.
