Nobody predicted that Meryl Streep would be the name on everyone's lips in the aftermath of the 2017 Golden Globe Awards.
Recipients of lifetime achievement awards such as the Cecil B. DeMille award aren't supposed to be the highlight of these shows. They're supposed to gracefully waltz on stage, tell a funny anecdote or two, thank their agent or spouse, and then gracefully waltz back off.
That's not Meryl Streep's style though. She had something important to say and when Queen Meryl has something important to say, people take note. Her takedown of Donald Trump has been the major talking point of last night's show and rightfully so as she so eloquently put the US President elect to the sword for his poor conduct in the past.
In hindsight, we really shouldn't have been too surprised that Meryl would steal the show. She's been the highlight of most awards shows for the past fifteen years or so. She really is the fairy godmother we all need right now and here's seven award show moments that prove it.
