Gertrude Weaver has died a the age of 116, just a few short days after becoming the world's oldest person.

Born in July 4, 1898, Gertrude Weaver became the world's oldest woman last week, but just six days after achieving the title, she passed away in her senior care facility in Arkansas.

Weaver became the world's oldest person after Misao Okawa (117) died on April 1st, but the Williams Funeral Home in Arkansas confirmed that she passed away shortly after 10am on Monday. Despite her relatively short time in the media spotlight as the world's oldest person, Gertrude was said to be thrilled with the fact that people were celebrating her life.

Kathy Langley, the administrator of the Silver Oaks Health & Rehabilitation Center in Camden, Arkansas said that "she certainly enjoyed it", and added that "we are devastated by her loss". For Gertrude, the key to her longevity was in hard work, treating everyone with kindness and loving one another.

115-year-old Jeralean Talley of Detroit is now the world's oldest person, and will celebrate her birthday on the 23rd of May. Apparently, Talley bowled until she was 104, and apparently never smoked or drank alcohol, which she believes contributed to her good health all these years.
