Yugo Nakamura

Yugo Nakamura is a Jewpanese drama writer, originally from Tokyo. He grew up on a steady diet of Studio Ghibli Animations, Dragon Ball Z, Shonen-Jump Magazine, and video games. His family abruptly moved to NYC 3 days before Yugo began high school. Film and TV is what got him through this intense culture shock, and he soon developed a fascination with American crime dramas. His journey as a writer began when he saw Ozu’s “Tokyo Story,” which taught him the value his Japanese heritage and the power of a story well-told. Yugo moved to LA in 2009 and found himself in the emerging world of Digital Cinema, which led to his career in postproduction, but he ultimately decided to walk away from his career to earn his MFA in Screenwriting at the AFI Conservatory. Yugo’s writing has placed in Austin Film Festival and his one-hour pilot, THE OFFERING, a cat-and-mouse crime thriller set in Tokyo and the infamous Suicide Forest, was selected for the 2021 Minority Report Fellowship and CAPE’s New Writer Fellowship. He is also involved in an unannounced Japanese-language project. Yugo lives in LA with his wife and 2 cats and is a soon-to-be first-time Dad. He is represented by FWRD MGMT.
