Yi Ching Hung

Born and raised in Taiwan, Kay moved to New York City at age 18. After attending the School of Visual Arts for her BA in Cinematography, Kay spent four years working as a cinematographer on various projects, taking her to Germany, Austria, Norway, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Taiwan. Kay’’s first memory as an interpreter of light and color occurred with her blind aunt. “As a kid, being my auntie's eyes, I described the world around her. Being a cinematographer reminds me of a similar sacred privilege — to focus on what others may not be able to see in life.” Her time at AFI has further developed her ability to “interpret” reality for future audiences.
