Valentin was born and raised in Paris, amongst a family of filmmakers and movie lovers. He learnt how to walk on a film set and how to think in a movie theatre. After spending some time studying various subjects such as Chinese and History of art, Valentin decided to pursue a cinematography career, thus attending 2 years at the International Film School of Paris within the cinematography section.

Valentin also lived in China for a year, where he not only worked for the Beijing French Film Festival but also as a hired photographer. Upon his return to France, he interned at Panavision (Paris) and at the Eclair Film Laboratory. He then worked on various projects as a cameraman, photographer, editor and post-production manager.

Valentin's first short film ""O feet"" found distribution in french theatres in 2004. In 2008, Valentin decided to attend the cinematography program at AFI in order to perfect his art and craft.
