Sarah Elgart

For more than15 years, Sarah Elgart's cutting edge choreography and

singular, accessible vision has made a contribution to film, television,

stage and the circus. Her sophisticated style and originality have led to her

work with pioneer directors including Curtis Hanson, David Lynch, Julian

Temple, Bob Giraldi, and Roger Spottiswoode, for whom she choreographed the

Emmy award-winning AND THE BAND PLAYED ON. As the Performance Producer,

Music Department Head, and Segment Director for The Disney Channel's award-winning MICKEY MOUSE CLUB, she was pivotal in casting, training and jumpstarting the careers of Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, 'N Sync's JC

Chasez and Justin Timberlake, and FELICITY's Keri Russel. Elgart has

worked with an array of recording artists, such as Santana, Babyface, Depeche

Mode, Diana Ross, and actors including Cindy Crawford, Jason Alexander,

Robert Downey Jr., Geena Davis and many others.

Sarah Elgart's commitment to dance and music as a fundamental celebration of

life has earned her national and international recognition. In 1997, Sarah

created and directed choreography for the successful six month Tokyo run of

Dream Angels, working with the Moscow Circus and an international cast and

crew. She has received awards and fellowships such as the National

Endowment for the Arts, the NEA and Rockefeller Foundations, the California

Arts Council, the Vanguard Award for Choreographic Innovation and many

others. Her work for Fishbone's music video Voices of Modern Industry

is part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New

York. She has been commissioned by and performed at venues including the

Getty Center for the Arts, the European Culture Capital Festival in Antwerp,

the Kennedy Center, the Mark Taper Forum and the Olympic Arts Festival.

Sarah was twice selected as one of four nationally recognized

director/choreographers for the Sundance Institute's Dance/Film Lab in '87 and

'88 where she began experimenting with dance and the camera, and worked with

such luminaries as Stanley Donen and Michael Kidd.

In 1992, Sarah completed her first critically-acclaimed short film BLIND FAITH, as one of 12 nationally selected directors for the American Film

Institute1s Directing Workshop for Women. More recently, she has completed

THE DREAM PROJECT, a series of short films created with young people and

based on their dreams. THE DREAM PROJECT screened at the

American Film Institute to critical acclaim and aired as part of programming for Real Shorts.Com and Leonardo Di Caprio's

Web site. Sarah Elgart is a Director member of the Director's Guild of

America and a Fellow of the American Film Institute.
