Paul Warner
DirectorHarvard University and AFI graduate Paul Warner's work in theatre and film has conferred on
him a rare artistic sensitivity and clarity that is shown to full effect in IN THE NAME OF THE
FATHER.
In theatre, Warner has worked extensively in Los Angeles, New York and New England. His
directorial credits have included ""Masked Angel"" starring Ian Ross and Alexis Arquette at the
Cast Theatre in Los Angeles, ""Out In America"" at the Westbeth Theatre Center in New York,
which starred Steve Baldwin and Darryl Hannah, and ""Twelfth Night"" at the Rapp Arts Theatre
Complex in New York. As a grant recipient from the Princess Grace Foundation, Warner
served Off-Broadway as Artistic Associate/Resident Director of New York's Second Stage
Theatre, during which time he directed ""Dinosaurs,"" and received a Statuette Award from the
Foundation for continuing achievement in theatre in 1988. He also directed Joseph Chaikin and
Sam Shepard's ""Savage/Love"" at the Circle Rep, was associate producer on Lanford Wilson's
""Lemon Sky"" at the Second Stage, which starred Jeff Daniels and Jill Eikenberry, and directed
more than a dozen other productions.
Warner has held and created a number of other positions in theatre, notably as co-artistic
director and co-founder (with composer Peter Melnick) of the Temperamental Ensemble in
Boston, Producing Artistic Director the Harvard-Radcliffe Theater Company, Artistic Director
of Opera-At-The-Academy in New York City, and Artistic Associate/Resident Director of New
York's Second Stage Theatre Company. He also worked as creative consultant to
Director/Designer Robert Wilson; in total, Warner has directed, produced, and/or written over
5O plays and operas.
In film, Warner has worked as the assistant to directors Ed Zwick and Fred Schepisi,
respectively, on the feature films GLORY and ROXANNE. He has directed four shorts,
including IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER and a documentary entitled AUTOGRAPHS.
Warner received the Ashley Amulis Fellowships Award for his work as a director at the AFI,
where he earned an M.A. in Directing, and is currently developing a feature production.
