Patrick is a Directing Fellow at the American Film Institute. He was recently selected as a Brit to Watch by BAFTA at its inaugural event with The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton, in Los Angeles. He is a recipient of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association scholarship and Robert and Marjie Bennett scholarship. Patrick began his career at the BBC. Prior to that, Patrick read Japanese at Hertford College, Oxford and was the JUSCO scholar at Waseda University, Tokyo. He has lived and worked in Japan and in 2005 directed the acclaimed documentary I, SAMURAI for the BBC and TBS-­‐Vision.
