Dzi-Yang Chen

Dzi-Yang Abraham Chen (陳子揚) is an editor and storyteller from Charlottesville, Virginia, based in Los Angeles.

Before moving to LA, he directed, produced, wrote, and edited a series of shorts while in undergrad at the University of Virginia. VOICES IN THE WIND received the Artist Circle at NOVA Fest. 2020. NEWBORN was chosen as a Semi-Finalist at Los Angeles CineFest in 2019 and as an Official Selection at the Best Shorts Competition, 2020. FAMILY RIFTS, an Official Selection at DC’s Asian Pacific American Film Festival in 2020, was shot on 16mm and edited on a traditional Steenbeck flatbed.

From 2018 to 2020, Abraham worked for UVA's Darden Business School and the local film company, Paladin Media Group in Charlottesville, Virginia. There he served as a PA, camera operator, and grip with duties ranging from operating the teleprompter to filming class teaching modules, graduations, dance performances, and official talks hosted by companies like C-SPAN.

During his two years at the American Film Institute Conservatory (2021 to 2023), he cut five short films included two theses: LOVE CYCLE and THE LAST BUTTERFLY, and assistant edited three more. As he leaves AFI, Abraham hopes to continue making films about empathy and love between mankind, expanding interest in world cultures, history and roots.

Abraham was recently accepted to the ACE Editors' Guild Internship.
