Michelle Truffaut
MS. TRUFFAUT has worked-and studied theatre/film in ENGLAND,
FRANCE and the UNITED STATES. She has studied acting and
directing with STRASBERG, CHAIKIN, GROTOWSKY and was a
GRADUATE FELLOW in DIRECTING at the AMERICAN FILM INSTITUTE
(AFI) where she earned her Masters in Fine Arts.
In 1972 MS. TRUFFAUT joined the SAN FRANCISCO REPERTORY
COMPANY as ARTISTIC DIRECTOR and has since directed more than
thirty productions.
She won BEST DIRECTOR awards by the BAY AREA THEATRE CRITICS
CIRCLE for MARY STUART by Hildescheimer (1982), and THE BLOOD
KNOT by Fugard (1983). In 1984 she was nominated for two
more CRITICS CIRCLE AWARDS for her direction and production
of MACHINAL by Treadwell, and BOESMAN AND LENA by Fugard.
As ARTISTIC DIRECTOR of the SAN FRANCISCO SUMMER SHAKESPEARE
FESTIVAL (1986-87), she produced and directed Brecht's MANN IST MANN, and Shakespeare's MEASURE FOR MEASURE: two more
CRITICS CIRCLE NOMINATIONS.
While a first year fellow at THE AMERICAN FILM INSTITUTE, she
directed three video projects: RALPH’’S ARM, MY NAME IS MILO, and OUR LITTLE SECRET.
Based on her work at THE AFI, Ms. Truffaut was invited to
return as a SECOND YEAR FELLOW. She co-wrote and directed a
16mm film version of RALPH'S ARM, an original screenplay.
