Mboni Maumba

Mboni’s passion for designing story worlds was inspired by the rich contrast in culture from a childhood straddling between China and Tanzania, and eventually the US. Mboni desired to combine her identities to create a fantastical sense of belonging. She discovered that this was possible on screen - where imagination becomes a reality with suspension of disbelief. Through production design, Mboni gained a deeper understanding of the all the worlds she loved differently and hoped to explore more cultures. She sometimes compares this creation of the onscreen world as imitating the hands of God: an endless imagination.
