Margaret Heidenry
WriterAfter studying film history and production at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, Margaret Heidenry began
working as a film lighting technician. Although in the beginning it was difficult—since
working as a grip/electric is traditionally not a job held by a woman—through hard work
and determination she was eventually accepted and has enjoyed a successful career. Margaret has
worked on several features, including Miramax's LITTLE ODESSA and Disney's TOM
AND HUCK, as well as hundreds of commercials and music videos. Margaret has also produced
several short films. One, THE FROG PRINCE, was shown at the Sundance Film Festival
and another, SHINE, was purchased by Bravo. The Brooklyn Children's Museum
recently commissioned her to produce and direct NEIGHBORHOOD STORIES, a
documentary that is now part of the museum's permanent exhibit. As a group leader and
teacher of the ""Get the Picture"" project, Margaret helped to introduce public school children to
filmmaking. Last month, she was selected by the Independent Feature Project/West to receive
an Independent Vision Mini-Film Grant from Dockers. Her film, YO-DE-LA-EE, will
premiere in June at the Dockers Classically Independent Film Festival in Los Angeles.
