Len was born and raised in northern New Jersey.  He is a graduate of Middlebury College, in Vermont, where he earned a BA in Film & Media Cultures.  It was at Middlebury that he made his first film, excluding the videos he grew up making with his father's video camera.  Len spent three years working in New York City as an assistant editor, webcast producer and feature production assistant before coming to the American Film Institute in the fall of 2011. His last gig before moving to Los Angeles was as the video playback foreperson on the Abel Ferrara feature “4:44 Last Day on Earth”.
