Lawrence Chew

Lawrence Chew is a second year Production Design Fellow. Prior to graduate school, he

received a B.S. in biology from Santa Clara University. After graduating, Larry became one of

the founding partners of a firm which built and operated three pizza restaurants, a bookstore/coffee

house, and a SO's style diner in Santa Cruz. He discovered that the conceptualization, design and

construction of the businesses were the areas he most enjoyed, and his career change began with

the design of David Mamet's American Buffalo for the Netless Theater of Santa Cruz. Larry

designed six short films in his first year at AFI.
