Kathleen Brown Corbin
While packaging and gathering financing on several projects, Kathleen Brown Corbin is currently completing EARLY BIRD SPECIAL, a dark comedy feature in the final stages of post production. Ms. Corbin produced WHERE THE ELEPHANT SITS, which won a Glass Bear for Best Feature Film at the Berlin Film Festival and Best Actor in the Carrousel International du Film, both in 1998, after the script won the Nicholl Award from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences in 1989.
Ms. Corbin co-produced STAR MAPS, an
independent feature film which was a hit at the 1997 Sundance Film Festival,
where it was picked up by Fox Searchlight and released theatrically the following summer. Later in 1998 it was nominated for four Independent Spirit Awards, including Best First Feature and Best First Screenplay. Her
thesis film (available here on AFIfilm.com), DROPPING THE BOMB ON MY STREET, received the Colin Higgins
Production Award for script, and was later selected for exhibition at the
1994 Locarno Film Festival, where it won the Youth Jury Leopard of Tomorrow Award and was picked up for both foreign and domestic distribution.
Ms. Corbin received a Bachelor's Degree (Magna Cum Laude) in musical theater with a dance emphasis at the United States International University, School of Performing and Visual Arts, and her Masters Degree from AFI with a producing emphasis. She began her professional career as an actress and a dancer,
appearing in numerous features, including ANNIE, PENNIES FROM HEAVEN and
GREASE II, along with several Movies Of The Week and television episodics. She performed in over 100 television commercials, along with many industrials
and radio spots. Ms. Corbin co-hosted 65 home shopping shows for Dayton Hudson department stores. Additionally, she has looped and dubbed for features and cartoons, including RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK and FLASHDANCE (looping Jennifer Beals.) Among her numerous stage appearances was a stint as a Rockette for Radio City Music Hall's CHRISTMAS IN LA.
Behind the camera, Ms. Corbin is quite hands-on, and has line produced every project she has produced. She has also held many crew positions on other projects, including 1st AD, UPM, line producer and choreographer. Additionally, she has produced, directed and edited industrials, lower budget commercials and music videos. She resides in Los Angeles with her husband and two children.
