John De Menil

John was born and raised in NYC. After graduating from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, he directed the feature documentary MAX ERNST HANGING (2009) about the inner workings of a museum exhibition. John moved to LA in 2009 and worked as assistant to producer Chris Meledandri on the films DESPICABLE ME and THE LORAX. In 2011 he served as cinematographer for the feature film THE HOUSE ITSELF for director Tommy Swerdlow (writer of COOL RUNNINGS and LITTLE GIANTS). Currently, he is developing a feature film based on his research with PYROMANCE collaborator and pyrotechnician Steve Jeffries. John wears a size 11 shoe, enjoys a good gyro, and hopes to one day have dinner with Bruce Springsteen.
