Jeffery J. Tufano
Jeffery J. Tufano was born and raised in New York and has been working behind the camera for 22 years.
After graduating from the University of Miami, Florida, he began his career in South Florida as a camera assistant, working in commercials, features and documentaries. While working with a New York camera crew on an NBC mini-series, LITTLE GLORIA, HAPPY AT LAST , starring screen legend Bette Davis, he realized that returning to his New York roots was inevitable, and set out to find professional success in "The Big Apple." While based in New York, Jeff became a successful feature first assistant cameraman, working on films such as SLAVES OF NEW YORK and MR. AND MRS. BRIDGE (both directed by James Ivory and photographed by Tony Pierce-Roberts), STEALING HOME (photographed by Bobby Byrne), THE LONG WALK HOME (directed by Richard Pearce and photographed by Roger Deakins), TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES (working with Jim Fred Murphy), ROOFTOPS (directed by Robert Wise and photographed by Theo Van de Sande), IRONWEED (directed by Hector Babenco), and ONCE AROUND (directed by Lasse Hallstrom and photographed by Theo Van de Sande).
After moving up to Camera Operator in 1990, Jeff landed a job working for George Lucas as Camera Operator and Second Unit DP on the critically acclaimed YOUNG INDIANA JONES CHRONICLES. Jeff has operated many feature and television projects, working with talented directors like Joe Johnston, Brian Levant, Jonathan Demme, Penny Marshall, Spike Lee (five films), Charles Burnett, Forest Whittaker, John Erman, Michael Pressman and Thomas Schlamme. He has been fortunate to work alongside Directors of Photography Miroslav Ondricek, Ernie Day, Fred Elmes, Ellen Kuras, Tak Fujikoto, David Tattersall, John Thomas, and Victor Kemper, current~President of the American Society of Cinematographer.
Jeff’’s Second Unit photography can be seen in the feature films EDDIE, HE GOT GAME, CROOKLYN, DEAD MAN ON CAMPUS, and THAT OLD FEELING, as well as the television projects THE WEDDING and NYPD BLUE.
Jeff was the main unit Director of Photography on Orion Pictures' JEFFREY, starring Patrick Stewart, Nathan Lane, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Weber and Michael T Weiss.
Jeff is a member in good standing of The International Cinematographer's Guild and The Society of Operating Cameramen.
