James Brett
Award-winning British director, JAMES BRETT, is a filmmaker whose reputation has grown through his unique film and television work on both sides of the Atlantic.
Known as an actor’’s director, BRETT studied drama at the LEE STRASBERG THEATRE INSTITUTE, while continuing his studies at LONDON UNIVERSITY where he graduated with a Bachelor’’s degree in Law.
After his band signed to record label PHONOGRAM, BRETT stepped to the other side of the camera. With cult music videos for such artists as SLEEPER, INNER CITY, REM/THE TROGGS and SLEEP, as well as acclaimed fashion clips for MTV, he became known for a powerful visual aesthetic and a strong ability with performers.
Adapted from the writing of beat author, CHARLES BUKOWSKI, his first screenplay, THE BURIED LIFE, brought him to Los Angeles, where he directed SHO(r)T, a documentary for Kurt Cobain’’s favorite band: THE JESUS LIZARD.
BRETT graduated from prestigious AFI in Hollywood. His short films have gone on to sweep awards on the festival circuit, including Best Short Film for WELCOME at the RUTGER’’S/NEW JERSEY FILM FESTIVAL, Best Short Film for DEADTIME at the SIDEWALK/ ALABAMA FILM FESTIVAL, a CINE EAGLE AWARD and Gold and Silver at the FLAGSTAFF FILM FESTIVAL.
This led to BRETT's recent television debut, helming the cult MTV comedy drama, UNDRESSED, Executive Produced by Oscar-winning British director, ROLAND JOFFÉ.
With an output described by WIRED as ""startlingly effective"", JAMES BRETT is one of the most prolific and stylish new filmmakers today. He is currently in development on the internet-based black comedy INTERNATIONAL CHEESE and his rock 'n' roll debut feature spectacle, STRINGS OF FIRE.
