Gary Ellenberg
Following the success of his award-winning feature TED, Gary Ellenberg is currently seeking finance for his latest projects, RIDING THE PINE, a ""coming of age"" comedy about failing miserably in sports, but succeeding in life, CARVE, a sexy and exciting comedy/horror about the ongoing riff between snowboarders and skiers and an adaptation of a Dostoyevski novella.
Gary, who was born and bred in Silicon Valley, received his B.A. in drama at the University of California at Berkeley. He then went on to the American Film Institute to earn his Master’’s Degree in Directing. At the AFI, he was bestowed with the Tommy Gross Award for Excellence in Filmmaking. It is there, in that little celluloid hub in Los Feliz, that he handcrafted his internationally renowned absurdist treatise, NO QUARTER, loosely based on Albert Camus’’ The Myth Of Sisyphus. NO QUARTER competed in over 15 national and international film festivals and was chosen as Best of the Fest at the Interfilm festival in Berlin.
Upon graduation, Gary wrote, directed and co-produced his debut feature, GRINDERS, which was shot by Matthew J. Libatique, the DP of Pi and Requiem for a Dream. GRINDERS went on to compete in film festivals, including San Jose Cinequest and the Texas Film Festival.
Immediately after GRINDERS wrapped, Gary went to work on TED, an explosive comedy about the Unabomber, featuring the talents of Andy Dick, Edie McClurg and Paul Provenza. TED has garnered six festival awards including Audience Choice at the San Francisco Indie Film Festival, Best Comedy at the New York Independent Film Festival and Best Actress at the Chicago Alt. Film Festival. For more information on TED, check out the website at www.chronicmedia.com.
Gary’’s other credits include shooting behind the scenes footage for Will Smith’’s website, a corporate video for Warner Bros. Music, as well as several music videos. He also is the author of EXEUNT, A PLAY WITH ACTORS and co-author of WHO’’S AFRAID OF UTA HAGEN, voted Pick Of The Week by the Los Angeles Reader. He is also a founding member of the outlandish, sketch comedy troupe Beer Theater.
Gary is represented by Eric Brown of Franklin, Weintraub, Rudell & Vissalo.
