Dubois Ashong
DuBois’’ passion for filmmaking emerged at Hampton University in 2005. Largely self taught, he began his pursuit in film as a production assistant for Raw Media Network, matriculating into a position with Paper Brown Bag Clothing, as Visual Content Director. In 2011, DuBois formed MindFrame Filmworks and was awarded an artist in residence grant at Solo(s) Project House Gallery for his feature documentary The Gantalist, presently archived at the Newark Library. DuBois has directed, shot, and edited over 40 films, which have been screened in multiple countries and across various festival platforms. As an educator, DuBois taught film production for 3 years at Rutgers University, before deciding to further his own education in film. DuBois graduated from the American Film Institute Conservatory with an MFA in Directing. He was awarded the Barbakow Scholarship and most recently completed his thesis film, Where The Water Runs; an Afro-Furturist drama inspired by the Flint Water Crisis.
