Derek Ustruck

Derek Ustruck holds a BA in Film Production from the University of New Orleans. After attending NYU’’s Tisch in pursuit of an MFA, he left to focus on the craft of screenwriting. He first learned the craft of filmmaking working as Video Assist on features such as KILLING THEM SOFTLY, 21 JUMP STREET and BULLET TO THE HEAD, and analog SFX creation and Production Coordination on the Sundance Grand Jury Prize and Oscar Nominated, BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD. He was awarded one of the inaugural AFI / IDG China Story Fellowships which provided a research trip to China in the summer of 2013 for his newly completed feature screenplay, YI QI. Most recently, he has completed writing for the Cassian Elwes produced action-thriller, AIRSPACE, to be directed by Walter Hill, an ently on assignment for Luis Prieto and Automatik to pen a sci-fi thriller.
