Deborah M. Pratt came to California from Chicago, Ilinois, as a performer appearing in numerous LA companies of Broadway shows. A singer/songwriter, Pratt has co-written songs with Lonnie Jordan, Robert Lamb and Bruce Broughton. Her performance career led her from writing and producing songs, to writing and producing television. In television, she created and executive produced for the USA Network, the television version of the Sandra Bullock film THE NET, starring Brooke Langton with Irwin Winkler. Pratt is most noted for her co-creative and co-executive producing title on NBC’’s hit series QUANTAM LEAP. As head writer, Pratt wrote 22 episodes for the series and produced all 97. She initiated and organized the first two annual QUANTAM LEAP conventions, of which the ‘Leapers’’ continued the tradition.

Pratt has just completed the pilot for her new series ARCH ANGEL for Paramount Television and plans to direct the opening episode.

She made her directorial debut with GIRLFRIENDS, a short film, which she also wrote and produced in association with the American Film Institute. GIRLFRIENDS won first place in the 1997 Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame for best short film, the St. Louis Film Festival, the CINE Golden Eagle Awards in Washington DC, the New York Exposition Festival and was aired on Showtime as a winner of the 1998 Filmmakers Festival. GIRLFRIENDS has just been given the honor of being selected to launch the American Film Institute's prestigious online network.

Pratt’’s first full-length feature film, CORA UNASHAMED was made for the BBC’’s Masterpiece Theater. CORA was presented as the premier launch piece for their American Collection in association with WGBH and was written from a short story by Langston Hughes. The film received national critical acclaim and touched the hearts of millions.

For her next directorial in film, she has chosen the live-action, film musical, SHADOWDANCE for which she penned the script and composed the music.

And, for the ultimate thrill, she has joined forces with her four sisters to form an online entertainment and game site called VMGN.com - V Media Global Network will begin its premier launch on February 10, 2001, with the action adventure, interactive world of THE VISION QUEST – Sangelino 2073.

As a writer in television, Pratt is the winner of the Lillian Gish Award from Women in Film, The Angel Award, The Golden Block Award, and five B.E.N. Awards. As a producer, she is a four-time Emmy Award nominee as well as a Golden Globe nominee.
