Christopher Popp
Christopher, a native of West Germany, became interested in photography at the age of eight when he observed his father developing a black and white picture in their company lab. After studying Photography, he trained as a camera Operator and 1st AC at German TVís (ZDF) Department of Education. Christopher then worked as an additional cinematographer and operator on documentaries in Egypt, Libya, Kenya, the Soviet Union, Great Britain, Israel, Italy, Switzerland, France, Canada and the United States. He also worked on features, movies-of-the-week, and TV series shot in Germany.
In 1999, Christopher graduated from the Center for Advanced Film and TV Studies at the American Film Institute, where he was the director of photography on several short films and on the thesis film SHADOWS, which has won prestigious awards from many international film festivals. Christopher was awarded the American Society of Cinematographers Gregg Toland Heritage Award for outstanding achievement in cinematography at the 14th Annual ASC Awards In February 2000 for his work on the film.
Christopherís Work has been covered in ìAmerican Cinematographerî Magazine, Eastman Kodakís ëInCameraí Magazine, and he was introduced as young and upcoming DP in the February 2001 issue of the German ëFilm and TV Kameramanní Magazine. Films he has contributed to have won prestigious awards at international festivals, the International Emmy Awards and have been screened theatrically and on television in Europe and the United States.
