Bernard Joffa

Bernard Joffa was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1955. After studying at Rhodes

University, he graduated from the Pretoria Film School in 1977.

In 1980, he established his own production company, Bernard Joffa and Associates, and for four years produced and directed a large number of shows on South African network television.

In 1985, he produced and directed the documentary DAVID GOLDBLATT IN BLACK AND WHITE, in conjunction with Channel Four Television in London, England. That film was honored with many awards, including a Blue Ribbon at the American Film Festival.

Bernard entered the American Film Institute as a Directing fellow in 1988. His Academy

Award-nominated live action short film, SENZENI NA? (WHAT HAVE WE DONE?), was conceived as his Master''s thesis project. It premiered at AFI in December 1990 and screened in early 1991 at the Los Angeles International Film Festival.
