Avi Quijada
Born in El Tigre, Venezuela, Avi comes from a large and loving family that challenged her to look at society in a different way, finding human nature as the most fascinating food for stories. Avi’’s passion for narration went from participating in writing competitions, theatre, music, and painting, to making short films with her friends in high school. Avi obtained a BA in Mass Communications with a minor in Audiovisual Arts from UCAB Caracas. She has since worked as a producer, director, and camera crew for various documentaries, short films, digital signage networks, and advertising. Avi directed and produced the documentary Margarita: Leyendas En Dos Tiempos (Margarita: Folk stories in two compasses), awarded with the Broadcast Mention by the UCAB School of Mass Communications. She was the postproduction assistant for the film Miranda, by director Diego Risquez. Avi was the producer in charge for branding campaigns for HBO Caribbean’’s On Air Promotions and she produced an upcoming documentary series to be broadcast in Latin America by TELESUR. She works as the editor-in-chief for XFilesNews.com (XFN) where she has developed and directed independent productions and charity events, such as the short film Place, and the WHAT WOULD FRANKENBEAR DO charity campaign, both of which involved over 25 countries at a time. Avi extended the reach of XFN by creating XFN Productions, where she functions at the principal of the company. In addition to producing Just Like Her she also produced a second thesis film at AFI, a SciFi action short titled Europa, while running two different worldwide charity campaigns and interning at Syfy Channel/ NBCUniversal. She was also part of the crew for 11 cycle films and 10 thesis films as Unit Production Manager, Production Coordinator and Accountant. Avi is the recipient of the Josef and Olga Auerbach Scholarship in recognition of her talent and academic achievement at the AFI Conservatory.
