Anne Madden
Born in Nuremberg, Germany, to Vietnamese-American parents, Madden was
raised alternately in Northern Europe and the US. With the absence of television
while abroad, she watched LAUREL AND HARDY and ABBOT AND COSTELLO movies
with the family Super 8 projector. Madden started making her own Super 8 film
shorts while still a teenager and continued to do so while attending Sarah
Lawrence College. After working in Story Research and Development for Turner
Pictures and the A&E Biography series, Madden attended the American Film
Institute’’s Directing Program, making three short videos before writing and
directing her Master's thesis film FIRST DAUGHTER, which gamered the Martin Ritt
Foundation Award for Best Screenplay. She is currently developing an IMAX
documentary with FIRST DAUGHTER cinematographer Haris Zambarloukos as well as
writing her first feature.
