Those of you of a certain, eh, vintage will no doubt remember the TV show Who's the Boss, an American sitcom that ran from 1984-1992 and starred Tony Danza as live-in housekeeper to a divorced advertising executive and her family. If that plotline sounds familiar, there was also a UK version called The Upper Hand and much more adaptions of this show made around the world, while it also became one of the biggest successes in syndication history.

Before Who's the Boss, Tony Danza had already established himself while co-starring in the classic sitcom Taxi, which ran from 1978-1983, but it was Who's the Boss that made him a household name in America and beyond. Since then, Danza went on to host his own daytime talk show in the States but has mostly spent his time working on Broadway, however, now the actor is about to return to television for an upcoming Netflix original series.

Called The Good Cop, Danza plays Tony Sr., a disgraced, former NYPD officer who never followed the rules. He lives with his son, Tony Jr., an earnest, obsessively honest NYPD detective who makes a point of always following the rules. This "odd couple" become unofficial partners as Tony Sr. offers his overly-cautious son blunt, street-wise advice on everything from handling suspects to handling women.

The show will be a 10-episode, one-hour dramedy series and Andy Breckman, the creator of Monk, will serve as showrunner and executive producer, while Danza will also produce.

"We’re excited to bring viewers the return of Tony Danza, one of television’s most beloved icons," said Cindy Holland, Vice President, Original Content for Netflix. "The Good Cop is a funny, charming procedural series that we think our members will love."

While Breckman said: "Many cop shows feature dark and provocative material: psycho-sexual killers, twisted, grim, flawed detectives. Many address the most controversial issues of the day. I watch a lot of them. God bless 'em all. But the show I want to produce is playful, family-friendly, and a celebration of old-fashioned puzzle-solving."
