Good news for fans of the series 'Vikings' as it's set to get a second life.
'Vikings: Valhalla' is coming to Netflix. Like its predecessor, Michael Hirst is behind it.
Based on the legends of Norse hero Ragnar Lothbrok, the original 'Vikings' debuted in 2013. It has been shot here in Ireland since its first season and is broadcast on RTÉ here and on History Channel in the US.
The sixth and final season debuts in December. These final episodes will wrap up the story of Queen Lagertha, played by Katheryn Winnick.
The new Netflix series takes place a hundred years after its predecessor. It follows a whole new set of Viking legends - Leif Erickon, Freydis, Harald Harada and the Norman King William the Conqueror (also a Viking descendant).
Jeb Stuart, whose credits include 'Die Hard' and 'The Fugitive', is writing it.
The spin-off will be filmed at Ashford Studios in Wicklow. So yay for Irish cast and crew employment!
Netflix is also currently producing 'My Father's Dragon' for Cartoon Saloon and 'Fate: The Winx Saga' (Ardmore) in Ireland. Additionally, 'The Knight Before Christmas', which hits the streaming service this week, was partly filmed at Charleville Castle. We'll have a review for the latter in the next couple of days.
