An animated series based on the Fast & Furious series is headed for Netflix.
The streaming company and DreamWorks Animation Television revealed that the show will serve as a spinoff to the hugely successful live-action film franchise. The studios previously collaborated on ‘Trollhunters,’ ‘Spirit Riding Free,’ and ‘All Hail King Julien,’ among other titles.
The series is executive produced by Vin Diesel, Neal Moritz and Chris Morgan, producers on the live-action movies.
Like the films, the show is taking ‘family’ as its take-off point. It will focus on a whole new character in Tony Toretto, Dom’s teenage cousin, who is looking to follow in the steps of Vin Diesel's Fast character when he and his friends are recruited by a government agency to infiltrate an elite racing league serving as a front for a nefarious crime organization bent on world domination.

The live-action film franchise has earned over $5 billion at the worldwide box office over eight films. The eighth instalment, The Fate of the Furious, was released in April 2017. The next film in the franchise, a spin-off based on Dwayne Johnson's Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham's Deckard Shaw, hits theatres in July 2019. Chapter 9 is due in April 2020.
