It really does speak to the huge impact that 'True Detective' has had that when you see backwater America, fallen religious iconography, lots of weird imagery, sex, and murder, your mind goes straight to it.
'The Devil All The Time', of course, is different from 'True Detective' in that it's a movie, not a TV series, but there's a lot of familiarity between them. They've both got star-studded casts, for one. 'The Devil All The Time' has Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Sebastian Stan, not to mention Mia Wasikowska, Riley Keough, Eliza Scanlen, and Jason Clarke.
Not only that, but the novel on which the movie is based has also been described as Hillbilly Gothic, which is just 'True Detective' all over. The story follows intertwining stories of violent and sinister characters in the town of Knockemstiff, Ohio, involving a pair of serial killer lovers, a corrupt sheriff, and a false preacher who eats insects.
All in all, it's pretty dark, twisted stuff. The movie arrives on Netflix on September 16th.
