'Borat 2', also known as 'Borat Subsequent Moviefilm', is proving a major hit for Sacha Baron Cohen.

The actor has been here there and everywhere not only promoting the film but defending it too against the likes of Rudy Giuliani - who featured in a compromising scene in the movie set in a hotel room - and even Donald Trump.

Trump branded Cohen "a creep" and "phony guy" in the wake of the movie's popularity.

The actor responded on Twitter:  "Donald - I appreciate the free publicity for Borat!

"I admit, I don’t find you funny either. But yet the whole world laughs at you. I’m always looking for people to play racist buffoons, and you’ll need a job after Jan. 20. Let’s talk!"

Since then, Sacha Baron Cohen has tweeted a behind the scenes look at one of the movie's many controversial scenes.

Disguised as a hillbilly singer, he performs at "March for Our Rights 3," a pro-gun rally organised by the extremist group the Three Percenters.

As the crowd turns on him, he flees in a getaway car along with his security.

At the end of the video there is a shot not shown in the movie. It sees the actor hidden on the floor of the vehicle, terrified for his life.

Sacha Baron Cohen captions it: "This was not the easiest movie to make."

 

Appearing on 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert', Cohen revealed that at one point, a rallier actually went for a gun but a security guard grabbed his arm.

The actor said he'd worn a bulletproof vest for the scene as a precaution.

He told Colbert that some undercover Black Lives Matter protestors outed him at the event as one of them yelled "Oh my God, it’s Sacha Baron Cohen."

As word got through the crowd that they were being pranked, people "got very angry."
