Following on from the success of his Netflix stand-up special Humanity, Ricky Gervais is bringing a new comedy series to the streaming service.
The show is called After Life and will consist of six half hour long episodes.
Gervais, the creator of such shows as The Office, Extras, Derek and Life’s Too Short, will star in the new series as well as being its writer, director, and executive producer. Long-time collaborator with Gervais Charlie Hanson is also an exec producer.
The plot synopsis reads: “Tony (Ricky Gervais) had a perfect life. But after his wife Lisa suddenly dies, Tony changes. After contemplating taking his own life, he decides instead to live long enough to punish the world by saying and doing whatever he likes from now on. He thinks it’s like a Super Power — not caring about himself or anyone else — but it turns out to be tricky when everyone is trying to save the nice guy they used to know.”
The actor-comedian also tweeted the announcement and ripped the piss in his Ricky Gervais way:
I start pre production on my new Netflix show tomorrow. It's a 6 part, dark comedy, in which I play a man who, after the death of his wife, becomes suicidal but decides to live long enough to punish the world by saying and doing whatever the fuck he likes from now on. pic.twitter.com/7AwmV6rEbd

A lot of people are trying to guess the plot, themes and even the dialogue of my new Netflix show. Some of them are offended by what they've guessed. One person tweeted me "Ugh, playing a typical straight white dude I see" Haha.
