Remember how often it featured as a double bill with 'The Dark Crystal'? Usually on Nickelodeon? Well, we remember.
As with 'Labyrinth' and other Jim Henson projects, the movie utilised animatronic puppets. It is typically considered darker than other Henson works.
Released in 1982, 'The Dark Crystal's setting is the planet Thra a thousand years in the past. A Gelfing called Jen goes in search of a missing shard from a magical crystal which will restore order to his world.
It was announced a year ago that Netflix were producing a spinoff series to the fantasy adventure flick.
Titled 'The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance', we now have the first images for it and a full cast list. If we do say so ourselves, it is quite a star-filled line-up.
Leading the cast are Taron Egerton ('Kingsman'), Anya Taylor-Joy ('The Witch'), and Nathalie Emmanuel ('Game of Thrones'). They play three Gelfling heroes called Rian, Brea, and Deet.
Joining them are Caitriona Balfe ('Outlander'), Helena Bonham-Carter, Harris Dickinson (forthcoming 'Maleficent 2'), Natalie Dormer ('Game of Thrones'), Eddie Izzard ('Ocean’s Thirteen'), Theo James ('Divergent'), Toby Jones, Shazad Latif ('Star Trek: Discovery'), Gugu Mbatha-Raw ('The Cloverfield Paradox'), Mark Strong and Alicia Vikander.
And that's not all either. there’s also Mark Hamill, Harvey Fierstein ('Torch Song'), Ralph Ineson ('Game of Thrones'), Jason Isaacs, Keegan-Michael Key ('Key and Peele'), Ólafur Darri Ólafsson ('True Detective'), Simon Pegg and Andy Samberg.
The series serves as a prequel to the 1982 film.
Plot-wise, the planet of Thra is in danger after the evil Skeksis corrupts the Crystal of Truth. Three Gelfling go on an adventure to help. Meanwhile, an epic battle for the planet commences.
The 10-episode series premieres in 2019.
