'The Guilty' is a US remake of a Danish crime-thriller which has earned itself a 97% critics approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Jake Gyllenhaal stars in what is expected to be a thrilling take on the Danish original from 2018. The original version of 'The Guilty' starred Jakob Cedergren as a police officer assigned to answer emergency calls. One night, he receives a call from a woman who appears to have been abducted; when the phone line goes dead, he attempts to track her and her kidnapper down.
As you can see in the teaser trailer released by Netflix below, all we hear is the dialogue that takes place between Gyllenhaal's 911 call operator Joe Baylor and the female abductee, voiced by Elvis Presley's granddaughter, Riley Keough.
It's unclear whether the remainder of the cast, including Ethan Hawke, Bill Burr, Peter Sarsgaard, Paul Dano, Da'Vine Joy Randolph and Beau Knapp, will appear on screen or if they will only appear as part of the voice cast.
Antoine Fuqua ('Training Day') directed the thriller, with Gyllenhaal and Nic Pizzolatto ('True Detective') on board as producers.
Given how well-received the original version of 'The Guilty' was seen by critics and audiences, here's hoping that the US remake can deliver on the high-stakes complexity that the Danish version has been known for. The most recent Netflix Original thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal was the underwhelming 'Velvet Buzzsaw', which failed to gain much critical praise.
However, it's looking likely that the movie at least delivers on its promise to be a non-stop thriller fest. As well as the film arriving on Netflix in October, it will also have a run in cinemas beforehand, meaning Netflix reckons this could be a major hit.
Here's the teaser trailer for 'The Guilty' which arrives on Netflix on October 1 after hitting select theatres for a brief run in September.
