Netflix's prices are going up once again, making it the third increase in as many years.
The streaming giant confirmed to entertainment.ie that the prices of its standard plan and premium plan are increasing, but the basic plan remains the same. Currently, the basic plan is for €7.99, which gives subscribers access to the library on one device or screen.
The standard plan, meanwhile, allows subscribers to view the same library in two devices at the same time. That plan was €11.99, but is now being increased to €12.99. The premium plan allows access to the same library on four devices and was previously priced at €15.99, and is now going up to €17.99.
The price increase will take effect from December 2020. A press statement from Netflix highlighted that "UK and Ireland is Netflix’s second most important market for production globally, and film in a variety of locations helping to boost employment and contribute to the local economy."
A spokesperson for Netflix also noted that the price increase "reflects the significant investments we’ve made in new TV shows and films, as well as improvements to our product," highlighting the new user interfaces, Top 10 features, playback options on mobile, and more.
"Our basic membership will remain at the same price ensuring as many people as possible can enjoy our content," the spokesperson added.
