Following up a series as successful as 'Derry Girls' is no easy task, but the wheels are already in motion for Lisa McGee's next venture.

'How to Get to Heaven from Belfast' is described as a 'comedy thriller' that has been snapped up by Netflix, and is about a group of three childhood friends who reunite in their late thirties after a fourth friend's death - only to embark upon a "dark, dangerous and hilarious odyssey" through Ireland to piece together what really happened in the past.

The show was originally intended as a Channel 4 production but moved to Netflix due to "changes in editorial direction", as well as "rising costs" and the "recent cooling in the U.S. co-production market."

The first cast members have been announced, and will see Roísín Gallagher ('The Dry', 'The Lovers'), Sinéad Keenan ('Little Boy Blue', 'Unforgotten') and Caoilfhionn Dunne ('A Thousand Blows', 'Industry') playing the aforementioned childhood friends Saoirse, Robyn and Dara in the 8-part series.

"I couldn’t be more excited to start production on ‘How To Get To Heaven From Belfast'," McGee said. "I’ve loved writing Saoirse, Robyn and Dara — three flawed, funny women who are about to embark on the most thrilling and terrifying adventure of their lives. A mystery full of twists and turns that will keep you guessing and make you laugh out loud. Let’s go girls!"

The show is being produced by Hat Trick Productions, who were responsible for 'Derry Girls', 'Father Ted', 'Outnumbered' and more.

There's no date for its premiere yet, but watch this space.
