Although it's only been on Netflix a couple of weeks, it looks clear that Mindhunter is the streaming service's latest hit and a second season has already been confirmed as in production.
In a lengthy interview with Billboard Magazine, David Fincher confirmed that the second season will focus on a particularly gruesome and shocking case in the late '70s. While many believed that the second series would focus on the BTK Killer - that's the guy with the moustache and glasses who kept turning up in the opening of each episode - it's now understood that it will focus on the infamous Atlanta Child Murders of 1979-1981.
Over the course of a two-year period, 28 African-American adults, adolescents and children were murdered in the city of Atlanta, of which almost all of them were attributed to one person - Wayne Williams. After a lengthy manhunt which involved the FBI, Williams was captured and convicted of the murder of two of the adults involved and was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences. Williams, however, has consistently maintained his innocence and has lodged several appears to overturn his conviction based on DNA evidence.
In his interview with Billboard Magazine, Fincher said that next season's soundtrack will "have a lot more African-American music which will be nice. The music will evolve. It’s intended to support what’s happening with the show and for the show to evolve radically between seasons."
No release date has been confirmed for Mindhunter's second season.
