Based off Stephen King's 1986 novel, 'It' and 'It: Chapter 2' were both huge success at the box office.
They were also seen as very rare successful adaptations of King's work, which is infamously difficult to reconstruct for screens.
Now it looks like HBO Max are taking advantage of their success and rolling with it. Reports over at Variety are saying a prequel series is now in the works. The show will begin in the 1960's, leading up to the events of 2017's 'It'.
Andy Muschietti, who directed both 2017 and 2019 films is attached to executive produce the series along with Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs.
The Muschiettis and Fuchs developed the story for the show with Fuchs writing the script. Andy would also direct the first episode should the project go to series. the A writers' room is now open.
The working title 'Welcome to Derry', refers to the town in which it was set. According to King, Derry is a fictionalised version of Bangor, Maine. Throw in Castle Rock, another town in the King universe and there starts to be a bit of a Northern Irish link going on.
There is no word on casting or any more plot details just yet, but keep your eyes peeled for more updates here.
