When you talk about 'Lord of the Rings', there's always a few points that immediately spring to mind.
There's Viggo Mortensen's star-making role as Aragorn. There's the incredible scale of some of the battle sequences, not to mention some of the special effects which have held up surprisingly well. And, of course, there's Howard Shore's Oscar-winning music that sat so beautifully over all of these. You can't imagine the appearance of Gandalf on the edge of the hill at the Battle of Helm's Deep without hearing 'Forth Eorlingas', or the lighting of the beacons without hearing his score.
With Amazon's billion-dollar TV series already beginning production on its second season, Deadline is reporting that the producers of the show have approached and are in advanced talks with Howard Shore to return as composer for the series. As well as scoring the original trilogy, Shore also composed music for all three movies of 'The Hobbit', not to mention providing music for Tom McCarthy's gripping drama, 'Spotlight' and wrote the theme music for 'Late Night with Conan O'Brien'. Yes, really. Check IMDb if you don't believe us.
Anyway, Amazon's 'Lord of the Rings' series has been in the works for quite a while, and seeing as Jeff Bezos is sinking ungodly amounts of money into the thing, you've got to imagine lining up Howard Shore to compose music would be a step in the right direction. After all, if the show ends up being a complete disaster, at least you'll have some great music to go along with it.
